How a Psychologist May be Able to Help
At Mind to Mind, our psychologists aim to optimise your sleep by addressing the underlying issues that may be contributing to your challenges. Whether you’re experiencing insomnia or sleeping too much, we want to help. Through evidence-based techniques, we work with you to develop healthy sleep habits, manage stress and anxiety, and improve your overall sleep quality.
Have a Question?
What is insomnia?
Insomnia Disorder is a sleep disorder that includes at least one of the following:
- Difficulty falling asleep
- Difficulty staying asleep
- Difficulty falling back asleep after waking up too early
Symptoms vary from one person to another, but may include things like daytime sleepiness, irritability, difficulty concentrating, decreased energy, decreased performance at work or school, mood fluctuations, muscle pain, headaches, and stomach upsets.
How can a psychologist assist with sleep optimisation?
Poor sleep quality may be a result of underlying mental health concerns, such as anxiety or PTSD. A psychologist may use a technique called Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or CBT, to address your sleep-related thoughts and behaviours in an effort to reduce your anxiety around sleep.
What can I expect when I see a psychologist for sleep optimisation?
Everybody is different, and at Mind to Mind we take the time to get to know you— and for you to get to know us. We talk with you to better understand what may be contributing to your sleep issues, and tailor a treatment plan to your unique needs.
How long does it take for my sleep to get better?
The amount of time it takes for your sleep to improve will depend on many things, such as the severity and underlying cause of your sleep challenges. By working with a psychologist, you may be able to see improvements sooner than trying to tackle it alone.
