How Psychologist Help in Adelaide

Private & Medicare Fees

We accept Medicare rebates for clients with a valid Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) referral from their GP or psychiatrist. Rebate amounts are set by Medicare and the out-of-pocket cost below is the gap our clients pay after the rebate. Payment is made in full, up front at the time of the appointment; the rebate is received afterwards.

Private Health Insurance

We accept private health insurance for clients who have appropriate extras cover for psychology services. Please note: private health insurance cannot be used to ‘top up’ a Medicare rebate for the same session; clients need to choose one or the other per session. Rebate amounts vary by fund and level of cover, so we recommend clients check with their insurer directly.

Other Referral & Funding Pathways

In addition to Medicare and private health insurance, we also see clients under the following referral and third party funding pathways:

  • DVA (Department of Veterans’ Affairs)
  • ADF (Australian Defence Force)
  • EAP (Employee Assistance Program)
  • AFL Players Association
  • RTWSA (WorkCover; workplace injuries)
  • CTP (Compulsory Third Party; motor vehicle accidents)
  • LSA (Lifetime Support Authority)
  • NDIS

Processes by pathway: please get in touch for information specific to your referral type!

Frequently Asked Questions

A referral isn’t required to book an appointment. However, if you’d like to claim a Medicare rebate, you’ll need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP or a referral from a psychiatrist before your first session.
With a valid Mental Health Care Plan, Medicare provides a rebate of $101.55 per session with a Registered Psychologist, or $149.05 per session with a Clinical Psychologist. You are eligible for Medicare-rebated sessions up to the annual limit set by your GP’s referral.
Both are fully qualified, AHPRA-registered psychologists. The title ‘Registered’ and ‘Clinical’ does not necessarily reflect experience or Continuing Professional Development training. It has been a past federal government policy decision that psychologists who have an endorsement in Clinical Psychology will attract a higher rebate. At Mind to Mind, we have set our fees accordingly so the out of pocket cost is similar regardless of the Psychologist a client sees.

Yes. If you have appropriate extras cover, you can claim through your private health fund instead of Medicare. You cannot claim both for the same session — it’s one or the other.

As the reimbursement amount and number of sessions vary depending on private health fund and level of cover, we encourage people to reach out to their health fund directly to get information regarding what they are eligible for.

Yes, we accept referrals under DVA, ADF, WorkCover/CTP/LSA, NDIS, and a number of EAP programs. Fees vary by pathway — get in touch and we can confirm the cost for your referral type. If your provider or scheme isn’t listed, please contact us to check.

We are a private psychology practice with all appointments being fee-for-service. Unfortunately, unlike GP practices, psychology does not receive any government incentives or further funding to provide bulk billing or reduced-fee services; this means that we are not able to provide ‘Bulk Billing’ or concession rates at this time.

If you’re wanting psychological support but are experiencing financial difficulties, you’re welcome to contact our friendly team to ask about other government-funded or NGO-funded services that may be appropriate for you.

Appointments cancelled within 48 hours of the appointment time, or not attended, are subject to a $100 attendance fee. Monday appointments must be cancelled or rescheduled by 12pm midday the previous Friday. Multiple late cancellations accrue the full missed session fee.
